Acadian Red Fish, also known as Ocean Perch, Rose Fish, or just plain Red Fish are a smart seafood choice because they are sustainably managed and responsibly harvested under U.S. regulations.  They are orange to flame red in color, with a paler underbelly.  They have large bulging eyes, and a large mouth with small teeth.  Their dorsal fins are very sharp and run from the nape of their neck to where their body meets the tail.  Acadian red fish are slow growing, long-lived fish. They can grow up to 20 inches long and live 50 plus years! They are found in the Atlantic Ocean from the coast of Norway to Georges Bank.

In terms of its flavor profile, Acadian Red Fish are a lean, white, moist and flaky fish.  They are firm in texture with a slightly sweet taste. As most mild fish are concerned, Acadian Red Fish can really be paired with any flavors you may choose.  Citrus, breaded and fried, baked whole with a plethora of herbs and spices, tossed into a stew, and truly anything else your heart may desire!

We are featuring Acadian Red Fish because they are a very overlooked option that checks all the boxes.  Sustainably managed and harvested, not overfished, tasty, a health-conscious choice, and relatively inexpensive.  Our hope is that some of you will try this fish and come to like it, just as you enjoy your other white meat fish!
