Lent is one of the most important times of the year for many Christians. It is an observance and
preparation for the celebration of the death and resurrection of Jesus. Lent is the six-week
period prior to Easter. It is traditionally a time for prayer, fasting, or giving up a luxury. It starts
with Ash Wednesday and ends with Easter Sunday.
The traditions of Lent are observed in many different ways. Some people fast, some give up a
specific luxury in their life, such as a food group (candy, meat, chocolate, etc), some give up
social media or watching TV. The giving up of these things is meant to refocus one’s faith
during the 6 weeks before Easter.
Another tradition many Christians uphold during Lent (sometimes year around as well!) is Fish
on Fridays. We do see an influx of people purchasing fish on Thursday (for Friday dinner) or on
Friday during Lent. It’s something we see each year – and of course we love it! There is always
a bit of a hubbub about what people are making for Fish Friday, which adds a bit of comradery
to the store. Seeing people share their family recipes is such a fun time!
For the people who want to participate in ‘Fish Friday’ this year, we make it easy by continuing
