Spanish Mackerel - Scomberomorus maculatus - A much larger fish then the northern Atlantic Mackerel.  The Spanish Mackerel averages 2 to 4 Lbs. but can weigh as much as 20 Lbs.  The markings of the Spanish Mackerel are distinctly different from the northern Atlantic as well. The Spanish has orange gold to yellow spots in three rows down its side, dark green back, changing to silver to its underside.  It eats a diet of small fish and shrimp.  It is a schooling fish and migrates off the eastern seaboard according to the water temperature.
Spanish Mackerel is totally different in flavor compared to the strong flavored northern Atlantic Mackerel.  It is a much leaner fish and has a very delicate flavor.
